Do you feel the US should continue to be involved in the crisis in Libya?
If yes, explain what role you feel the US should play in the overall operations in Libya and how long that involvement should continue. Also, how do you justify spending money at a time when any government spending is criticized?
If no, explain why you feel the US should stay out of the conflict. How do you justify standing on the sidelines while innocent people are being attacked by their own country? Is there anything the US can do without actively being involved?
I think we should stay involved for as long as they need us. A lot of money is being spent but i think there are worse ways the government is spending money. Maybe one day we will need help and they would comeback and help us.
ReplyDeleteI think we should stay involved as long as necessary. The money being spent is at least being used for a good caused. If we were in Libya's situation I think we would want other countries to help us out, so we should do the same for them.
ReplyDeleteI think we should stay involved to a limited capacity. I think we should also let some of the European countries help fund the crisis. The role we should play is air support but not have any ground troops. We should stay invovled until the threat of civil war in Lybia goes away. It's hard for a country of our means to sit back and watch a dictator torture and kill civilians, so we need to spend the money because it's something that our country just has to do.
ReplyDeleteI think that we need to stay out of it. I feel like the U.S. needs to stop being the big brother all the time and stay out of the conflict for once to take time to fix our own problems. (No one can argue that we aren't lacking in that department.) Yes it can be argued that this is genocide and that it's against our ideals, but they aren't our people so although we don't like it we should just let Libya figure out their own problems. If change is going to happen in Libya it may get ugly but that's the way it is, especially in a civil war. Things like this have happened before and the U.S. didn't help much at all (Somalia for instance). In fact we just lost money and American lives in these conflicts. For a country to independently move forward they have to do it on their own for the most part. The U.S. even went through this in our civil war, we had mild help from the French, but overall it was anyones game to win. This is the case of Libya.
ReplyDeleteOnce again we need to stay out of it, if Obama wants to start a side project he should work on the border control or something. Maybe he can arm our patrol officers with something more reliable than a gun loaded with bean-bags, that way they can stop worrying about being slaughtered by the drug cartel!!!

ReplyDeleteI think that the U.S. should stay involved but I think we should encourage other countries to help out too so that way we arent left paying the large sums of money it will cost to protect the citizens of Libya by ourselves. Since most countries believe the same way about this conflict as us, they should be willing to help so we can save innocent lives. If we continue to be involved I believe that we should keep fighting from the air and not send in any ground support. By keeping it in the air we'll be involved but it will save lives of American citizens which is especially good since we have many soldiers dying in the middle east fighting a war already.
ReplyDeletewe should stay out of libya we dont benefit from it at all. it is just costing us a lot of money that we dont have. if we were to go there to help people we would get killed for a country that is killing there own people. if we stay out of it we will save money and the lives of our soldiers.
ReplyDeleteI do not think we need to stay involved. This is not our problem so I think it would be best for them to figure the problem out by themselves. We are already in a money crisis why make it worse.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the aspect of this being a civil war in Libya and we need to stay out of it and worry about our own problems. However, when people like Qaddifi are killing innocent civilians one must think that it would be morally wrong to stand aside and let it happen. I think that this conflict is part of a bigger picture that has been happening ever since WWII when the middle east began to develop into what it is today. As for now the presidents policy of assessing the situation and doing a minimal amount to protect civilians is good enough for now in my opinion until we fully see what is developing all over the middle east.
ReplyDeleteI understand that we are in Lybia because it is a major place for the US to get oil. I feel that we shouldnt even be there because they are having a civil war and the US does not need to be involved. Wer have enough problems to worry about without this new conflict in Lybia. The middle east is in a time of conflict and need to work it out themselves and we do not need to be involved with their personal problems.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would be right for us to let Libya 'solve their own problems' at a time like this. How are they to solve their problems when the government is killing off the innocent civilians and they have weak defenses against it? I don't like how the spending is going to affect our economy, but $500 million is only a drop in the bucket. Really... how much is a human life worth? It would be like a teacher watching an innocent child get beat up in a playground, and just standing there doing nothing..
ReplyDeleteI feel that the U.S. should keep the no fly zone inforced but stop bombing and keep ground forces out. I just don't think that we can keep three conflicts going with how the economy is here. If all the other countries feel the same way why don't they help instead of us taking the bill. I think other countries don't get involved because they think that the U.S. can handle it. So I think we should stop bbombing and keep ground forces out but inforce the no fly zone that would lower cost and we're not arming the rebels. Which we shouldn't do either just because if theyare assocciated with al quadi that would make us look foolish arming the people we're fighting in the other conflicts.

ReplyDeleteI think that we should continue to stay involved in Libya. Our economy isn't doing well but we should stay there untill Al Qaeda is captured. It may be expensive to enter the war but our economy is already doing poorly so more dept is going to acumulate no matter what we do. Libya right now is suffering too and i think that we should help them simply because we can. We can eventually get our money back and maybe Libya could repay us, but we should help them now before its to late and things get to out of control. If it was our country we would want somebody to help us.
ReplyDeletei personally think that the us needs to be involved. its thought that this corruption happens mainly in the east of the world, but in reality it could happen anywhere. If the us was being dictated with a bad leader, wouldnt you want a different country to get involved if it meant saving your lifE? i know i would regardless of who it was. the us force cant physically force libya to do anything but i think talking to them and trying to show them whats actually going down and how insane it is, would be a good thing to do. it also wouldnt be costly.
ReplyDeleteI think we should stay in Libya. We shouldn't send ground troops but we should keep bombing them. I think the US should take a slightly more passive role and let the EU contribute.
ReplyDeleteI think that the US needs to take some measures to protect itself. But I think that it is not beneficial for our country to be involved in their mess. President Obama is way over his head on this one. I think that this isn't our buisness we need to back off. I think we have our own issues were dealing with here at home. Gadhafi is a horrible person he has been for years. I do agree he has to go, but its unlikely to happen without support from other countries.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel the US should be involved with Lybia. At least there should not be any troops over there. It has already cost the US over 500 million dollars being over there. All it is doing is putting the nation into more debt and maybe causing us to be involved in another war, which we can definitely not afford. The US could probably do just as much if we gave the rebels some weapons and tried to control things from here instead of over there in Lybia. I don't think the spending we are doing there too is the answer.
ReplyDeleteI think that the u.s should just stay out of there. If it gets too bad then maybe we should help but we have our own problems to deal with. And we don't have the money to help them..
ReplyDeleteI don't think the U.S should continue to be involved in the crisis w/Libya. We're spending money we don't really have to give and trying to help everyone else out when we really need to help out ourselves first.
